August is officially here, and I can feel the shift already. As the eighth month of embracing the summer heat and days, reaching the second half of the year is a time for new beginnings and a reset. Whether you are starting back school, moving to a new city, or simply pushing yourself to start a neglected resolution that you’ve held off doing— at least for me, it’s a great month to accept newness and fall in love with things we might not necessary have noticed/appreciated before or simple things that deserve a moment in the spotlight.
The month of August, even though it has literally just started, has been a bit stressful for me, but in an exciting way. It’s my shift. After endless months since graduating from college and allowing the fear of change to consume my Virgo mind on the what-ifs, I am finally leaping to move to the Big Apple. It’s daunting and exciting, but it’s the new beginning that I know I need. This hectic period of my life is overwhelming, to say the least since my whole life has been in a small beach town in Mississippi. It’s an unknown and only having traveled to New York once for only 24 hours (yes, I traveled from Mississippi to New York and back in one day) it’s a crazy jump of faith that I am willing to take and in the meantime as my days dwindle of being at home what better time than to find the things I have interest in and bring me joy.
So, before I let August slip away like a moment in time. Here are a few things I’ve been favoring in my wandering eye for this month that hopefully you might enjoy.
Spot On
Lately, I have spotted the resurgence of polka dots flooding my feed and I’m not mad about it. This color block pattern most popularly in staple black and white is a classic that compliments any skin tone and body type leaving it to be a great versatile style that can be worn in any way in any color you choose. It doesn’t take much to connect the dots on why this style is trending again. From recent runways of Patou’s Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear to Zimmermann Resort 2025, there have been plenty of hints on what is to come in the fall months ahead. Plenty of brands are already circling in on the trend with recent collaboration from Maryam Nassir Zadeh x J.Crew, Reformation, and Free People to name a few.
But why are polka dots the trend to spot on our radar?
Sarah Shapiro from Retail Diary says in her latest piece that polka dots are “Mood-boosting - this is a fun trend that makes us smile.” The playful yet simple pattern creates a positive and safe emotion in us. Ingrid Fetell, author of Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness, wrote, “Circles and spheres are the most approachable shapes, with no sharp edges to risk injury. Our emotional brain understands this intuitively and unconsciously prefers round forms over angular ones.” Fetell also explains that our lasting interest in dots is linked to the amygdala in our brains, “Research has shown that people implicitly associate curved forms with safety and positivity while associating sharp angles with danger and negativity.” So the more dots the better.

Nostalgia is back
A storm has been brewing in a new "twist" in upcoming fashion that we might be seeing a whole lot of this coming fall. Boho fashion isn’t new, but maybe it’s time for a refresh, don’t you think? Kicking off the tornado of buzz for the past few weeks has been Daisy Edgar-Jones and her polished, airy press looks for Twister. Jones has been seen wearing Chloé's F/W 2024-25 collection, which debuted last February in Paris. Led by Creative Director Chemena Kamali, the inspiration for the collection was a balance of vintage and the now, “It’s a sense of nostalgia that takes something which triggers a memory and makes you feel something today. This is very much to me what Chloé is about,” Kamali stated.
So what makes it different?
The blend of fluttery sheer and lace bodices, loose cascading ruffle-laden designs and creamy hues that exudes soft femininity. This new interpretation of boho chic is more refined and delicate, embracing a sophisticated simplicity that highlights intricate details and elegant silhouettes. Unlike the boho trends of the past, which often leaned heavily into eclectic and sometimes overly casual aesthetics, Chloé's revival is all about understated luxury. It's a move away from the heavy layers and bold patterns, focusing instead on a minimalist approach that still captures the free-spirited essence of boho.

Personally, I favor gold over silver jewelry and don't plan to switch anytime soon. That’s to say, I have noticed a growing trend in making a statement with your jewels. Chunky jewelry has increased especially the most recent trend of incorporating jewels into hairstyles. The resurgence of bold, chunky gold pieces has been particularly notable. From oversized hoops to layered chains and statement rings, chunky gold jewelry has become a staple in modern fashion. This trend is not just about adding a touch of glamour but also about making a bold, confident statement.

Timeless Modern
Laura Harrier’s unique blend of elevated minimalism has earned her a spot as one of my favorite fashion icons. Often seen in simple tees, relaxed-fit denim, and form-fitted dresses, Harrier consistently hits the mark on exuding a sophisticated aura in her style. Now, she’s making it easier for us to replicate her effortless style with her new 18-piece collection with Reformation.
Keeping true to her timeless style and inspiration from ‘90s fashion figures, like Naomi Campbell, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Kate Moss, and Gwyneth Paltrow, Harrier co-designed the line with flattering silhouettes ranging in neutral earth tones of whites, blacks, grays, and browns. “I started with pieces in my own closet that I loved and drew inspiration from there. I have a ton of vintage so much of the collection is influenced by my love of collecting that, but I wanted everything to feel modern and fresh at the same time," Harrier stated.

Summer whites are on my mind. There’s something about a little white dress that is the perfect piece for summer. It’s simple, chic, and the perfect throw on to embrace the summer heat. It’s pretty explanatory, but recently my appreciation and love for the simple basic was when I saw Lily Rose Depp (a personal fashion fav) wearing a simple white eyelet detailed dress with a powder blue Chanel to add a pop of color.

Lately, I have been seeing a rise in run clubs and community-based social gatherings, and one that I love the most is book clubs. Kaia Gerber’s Library Science has finally gotten on my radar, and I have been living under a rock. Founded in 2020 during the pandemic, Gerber has created a community for book enthusiasts to connect and explore discussions on diverse, thought-provoking literature. Recently, Gerber was spotted wearing a tee with white lettering read, “Come to my house. I have great books.” I will say this was my first introduction to Library Science, and even if I’m a little late on joining the wagon it’s better late than never right?
One of my favorite accessories is the skinny and sleek strap bag, and for good reason. These bags add a clean and polished look to any outfit, effortlessly elevating my style. They possess a timeless quality, ensuring that they never go out of fashion. Whether for day or night, the versatility of these bags makes them a perfect choice for any occasion. The simplicity of the design adds a classic touch, making them a staple in my wardrobe. Additionally, I find that the skinnier the straps, the sleeker and more elegant the bag appears, enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.

It’s the year of sports, with the rise of tenniscore taking centerstage. From Zendaya’s tennis-worthy press outfits for Challengers to Wimbledon this past month and the Paris Olympics currently underway, tennis style is in the spotlight on and off the court. A significant influence on tennis fashion that has caught my fascination was former Italian tennis player Lea Pericoli. Pericoli’s style was characterized by its daring and innovative designs that blend elegance and playfulness, with one of her most memorable and my favorite being a rose-trimmed skirt tennis dress designed by Teddy Tinling during Wimbledon. Pericoli’s style drew crowds as much as her fashion choices as for her matches to the point where Tournament organizers asked Pericoli and Tinling to keep her outfits secret ahead of their first appearance, to enhance the sense of anticipation. "I became famous because of my clothes, not my playing,” Pericoli told the Sunday Mirror in 2001. Her bold attire not only challenged the traditional norms of tennis fashion but set new trends that resonated beyond the sport.

There’s something so chic about products literally made for you. It honestly reminds me of my middle school days of monogramming everything I owned, but maybe that’s just a southern thing. I guess old habits die hard since this old obsession springs to life once again as I have been loving Officine Universelle Buly. Personalized products offer a unique sense of individuality and luxury, transforming everyday items into treasured keepsakes. There's an added layer of connection and thoughtfulness in having something tailored specifically to your tastes and preferences. It’s like a little reminder that you’re special, and that’s a feeling worth cherishing.

It’s a sporty year, so why not look the part? Some of us won’t be winning on the world’s stage—me included—but that doesn’t stop us from winning gold in what we wear, especially when we are in a sporty chic mood. I was going through my personal thrift shop (a.k.a my dad’s closet) when I found a few tracksuits, sweatshirts, and jackets from the early '90s to 2000s. Firstly, which doesn’t come as a shock in today’s clothing production, the material was sturdy and held up well, which is a testament to the quality severely lacking today. The iconic swish check mark on the vintage Nike pieces, along with the bold colors and unique patterns, immediately caught my eye. These finds not only bring a sense of nostalgia but also seamlessly blend into the current trend of athleisure wear.

For the past two years, blush has been a dominating product in the beauty industry racking in an estimated $59 million on Amazon alone according to Circana. Through the influence of social media, preferably TikTok, we have seen numerous blush trends emerge this year, including “glazed blush,” “boyfriend blush,” and “sunset blush.” The majority of these trends focus on achieving a vibrant and pigmented flush of color on the cheeks drawing from the inspiration of celebrities and influencers.
I think we might be shifting back into more skin-like minimalistic flush of color for our complexion compared to the blush craze or “blush blindness”— the new coined TikTok term describing how a person is unable to see or recognize the colors and tones of blush applied to the skin that suits them.
As we move into the fall months, expect to see lighter, more natural blush styles. Colors like Merit's Flush Blush in cool pink, NARS Powder Blush in mauve, and Rhode Beauty Pocket Blush in neutral peach will be perfect for achieving that light sun-kissed look or a subtle boyfriend blush style. These shades will bring a fresh, understated elegance to autumn makeup routines.
Brooklyn Shoulder Bag
If you have been living under a rock deep within the Earth’s crust then you might not know that Coach has been the "it" brand as of late on social media. Personally as an avid Coach lover since my high school days, I have always been a fan, and recently the brand has stepped up its' game under the direction of creator director Stuart Vevers. Gaining more well-deserved love than ever before, this past month Bella Hadid stepped out in the TikTok viral “it” bag Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39 in New York.
The Brooklyn Shoulder Bag's popularity can be attributed to its sleek and lived-in hobo-style design, making it a perfect bag for casual and formal outfits that carry a “distinctly New York attitude,” according to Coach. “…taking some of those ladylike references and making them feel more urgent, more feminist, more every day,” Vevers told WWD. While coming in four earthy hues: dark lime, tan, maple brown, and black sported by Bella Hadid, the bags are constructed in natural grain leather with a sturdy shoulder strap, inside snap pocket, and magnetic snap closure. The bags are available in two sizes, the 28 and the larger 39 that can act as a day-to-tonight wear style bag for on the go.
Living along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, I have always lived by the beach. When stressed, bored, and/or in need of peace, the beach was always an outlet for me to escape to. As my days at home slowly end, I find myself longing to do something that connects me with the place I've always known. A picnic on the beach seems like the perfect way to celebrate and cherish my time here. Imagine spreading a cozy blanket on the warm sand, enjoying the waves crashing, and sharing a delicious meal with loved ones. The simplicity and beauty of a beach picnic would allow me to savor the tranquility and joy that the Gulf has always brought me. It’s a way to create lasting memories and bid a heartfelt farewell to the shores that have been my sanctuary.
PHLUR Heavy Cream
Lemon Marshmallow anyone? PHLUR recently released a new scent to the menu and it might be my new obsession that I need to get my hands on soon when it restocks. Picture this: a milky impression of decadent sweetness. Playful and sugary, yet elegantly elevated. It’s a blend of whipped gourmand notes that dance with bright citrus and radiant florals, offering a fragrance that is both sweet and airy, with a silky, almost ethereal quality. Sounds good?
Notes:
Top: Lemon Sugar, Marshmallow, Orange
Heart: Jasmine Blossom, Coconut Cream, Vegan Ambrettolide
Base: Vanilla Mousse, Salted Caramel, Whipped Cream
Your Pillow’s Runway
The way we dress in the day should be reflected in how we dress at night. Lately, I have started to give my nighttime routine the same tlc that I would give to dressing myself in the daytime because resting should feel just as glamorous and be an experience we should cherish. Investing in luxurious sleepwear, such as silk pajamas or soft, breathable cotton robes, has transformed my evenings into a personal retreat. Soft, high-quality sheets and plush pillows elevate the comfort of my bed, making it a sanctuary for relaxation. By treating my nighttime routine with the same attention to detail as my daytime outfits, I’m embracing the idea that self-care and comfort should extend beyond just the day, turning every night into a lavish escape that enhances both my rest and overall well-being.

One trend I've been eyeing to try out is Bejeweled Pendant Caps. Over the top and undeniably a statement piece, these caps add a touch of uniqueness and fun that I absolutely love. What excites me most about this trend is the opportunity to create something personal and one-of-a-kind. As a DIY girl at heart, I relish the chance to dive into projects that allow me to express my creativity. Crafting my own caps gives me the perfect outlet to mix and match vintage and new jewels, combining different styles to create a truly unique accessory. This fun project not only adds a personal touch to my wardrobe but also lets me showcase my individuality in a stylish and eye-catching way.
As the months go by, the days get hotter, and the last thing I need is my hair in the way. Living in the south, the humidity can make or break you, and nine times out of ten, it will win the heated battle. My usual go-to involves just clipping my hair away in a hair clip that gets the job done but doesn’t always hold up in the sweltering heat. Recently, I’ve been embracing the double knot bun—a stylish yet practical solution to keep my hair secure and off my neck. This versatile hairstyle not only keeps my hair neatly contained but also adds a chic touch to my summer look. It’s easy to achieve and works well with any hair type, making it a perfect choice for those sweltering days when comfort and style are equally important. Plus, it’s a great way to add a bit of flair to my summer outfits while staying cool and collected.
Coffee… it’s not it for me. I was never a coffee drinker no matter how many cups I tried. It was something I could never acquire a taste for, except on busy nights stuck in the library preparing for a college exam at midnight. A few years ago, however, I discovered matcha and instantly fell in love with it. The vibrant green tea offered a smoother, more nuanced flavor that I found far more enjoyable than coffee. Since then, matcha has become my go-to drink, providing a gentle energy boost without the jitters that coffee often causes me. Recently, I've started making my own matcha at home, experimenting with different blends to craft the perfect cup. From selecting high-quality ceremonial grade matcha to finding the right balance of sweetness and creaminess, the process has become a delightful ritual that I look forward to each morning. Not only does it taste amazing, but it also offers numerous health benefits, making it a win-win for my daily routine.
